Amazon.com, Inc. is an American multinational electronic commerce company with headquarters in Seattle, Washington, United States. It is the world’s largest online retailer. Amazon.com started as an online bookstore, but soon diversified, selling DVDs, CDs, MP3 downloads, software, video games, electronics, apparel, furniture, food, toys, and jewelry. The company also produces consumer electronics—notably the Amazon Kindle e-book reader and the Kindle Fire tablet computer—and is a major provider of cloud computing services.

While at Amazon.com I worked as a full-time employee (blue badge) in several different groups:

Buying and onsite sales (BOSS)

The BOSS group had one primary goal; To solve co-branding and user experience challenges. My job was to create mock-ups and develop functioning prototypes of alternative UX patterns & processes to increase conversion while eliminating browsing for product pain points. Our first major hurdle was to come up with a navigation pattern that would support the onslaught of new stores being opened in the Amazon.com retail site. Designed visual merchandising navigation concepts for both business and technology owners, with emphasis on product development can be a challenge when you have multiple stores competing. Our team created new shopping carts and e-commerce solutions for specific Amazon.com clients.  I also completed Amazon.com’s course in site usability and attended Jakob Nielsen UI seminar.

Amazon.ca

With the multiple international sites having various levels of complexity as compared to the .com, I was assigned as the principal designer for the Amazon.ca launch. Working collaboratively with other designers to meet creative and business objectives, my role was to develop the initial concept work and manage the brand standards for the new country launch.

Marketplace Sellers

At the time, eBay was one of the largest retail resellers in the space. In this role my job was to work with the marketplace team to develop a product listing option to take on the ‘sell it yourself’ issue Amazon had. Users could go to a detail page for an item and offer up the option of selling one of their own.

General Web / Graphic Designer

Developed web pages, including banners, icons, buttons, illustrations, templates, and other print/web materials featured on the homepage and with the personalization team. Created and manipulated web graphics optimized for palette, size, and speed of download. Developed an entire library of high profile associates web graphics and online advertisements, which are displayed on AOL, MSN, Prodigy and Earthlink.
